I am pleased to announce that I am gonna be a yummy mommy! We started planning to get pregnant sometime late last year and we’re both pleased and surprised that we didn’t have to wait very long for a pregnancy.
I found out sometime in mid January. I was at SOS Medika for my dental appointment. SOS gives out discounted dental cleaning package for their patients once a year as a birthday present, so I’ve come to take advantage. While I was waiting for my dentist, I decided to check out the tiny drugstore for a pregnancy test pack as I was about a week late. Here’s how my conversation with the druggist went:
“Do you sell pregnancy test packs?”
“Yes we do.”
“I’d like to have one please. Do you take credit cards?”
“Credit cards purchase are for a minimum fifty thousand rupiah. I have a bundled test pack special offer, its two sets for fifty thousand, cheaper than if you buy separately. Would you like that?”
I remembered thinking: well ok that sounds like a good deal. But shucks, if it comes out positive I’m stuck with an extra test pack that I dont need. Oh well, life has risks. (Dasar orang Padang ogah rugi! Haha.).
I said: “Sure, that’s fine.”
So took the test packs, swiped my card and went to the clinic’s bathrooom and it came out positive!!! Yippee kay yay!! I read the instructions again to make sure that 2 pink lines actually means positive and to check what the accuracy rate was. 99.9%!
After cleaning my pearly whites, I went straight to the obgyn at Brawijaya Women’s and Children and had an ultrasound. Yup, I had a little nut in there. And the doctor reconfirmed the test pack that I’m positively preggers!
I’ve now just passed the first three months and in the second trimester, sporting a protruding tummy and wearing maternity clothes already. I am eating a LOT of food and have been a good girl in taking my daily prenatal vitamins. The first three months of pregnancy I felt really fatigued. I wanted to take a nap every afternoon at 3 pm and was a goner again by around 10 pm. Although, I have no specific food cravings and no morning sickness, combined with not smoking, I eat a bomb!J

I go for routine check ups and ultrasounds at my obgyn here in Brawijaya but while I was at a business trip in Singapore several weeks ago, I went to Mount E, did a check up there and for the first time saw my baby’s heartbeat in my 11th week pregnancy. Awwwwww!
Being pregnant is totally an eye opening experience for me. I feel my body changing daily. My belly growing, my sense of smell becoming keener, my emotions going yoyo and my appetite jumping up the roof.
I don’t go out very often now as I feel tired very quickly. For someone like me who has very high energy and lots of activities, this really affects me. All I want to do now is have a massage and curl up in bed after a day in the office. There goes my squash game and biking. But I do plan to do some yoga and swimming when my energy level is up again.
I’m not planning for our next vacation as I dont know when that will be and I really dont feel like going anywhere far or adventurous at the moment. And the books I’m reading in bed these days are related to pregnancies and babies rather than the usual hodgepodge of novels, and travel and history books.
I’m now interested in vaccines for babies, schools, healthcare, the whole basket... Will my life be different from now on? I guess so. But I’m sure it’s for the better!
And so I've got an extra test pack for next time. Ain’t being pregnant grand?
