Ms. Alma and I

Attention: Yang sudah lihat di FB, mohon maaf yaa....

Alma and I went for our first outing when she celebrated her first month. It was the first time she left the house other than going for check ups and vaccines at the doc's. We went to PIM for lunch at Sushi Tei with my friend Gita and her mom, and then to the studio!:)

Alma got into a watermelon suit (which was so adorable), and later wore her cute yellow dress, then sported a beanie. She then posed shirtless with me and then in her favorite pink overall when she got sleepy.

She makes me go goo goo ga ga!!!!! Hahaha... I really, really enjoyed that day:)

Her first month-versary fell on a weekday, so Hamid didn't join us in these studio pics, but we still had a ball nonetheless.

Alma Inside!

These pics were taken at a studio just 3 days before I gave birth. At that time, I was already on maternity leave and hung out malls during the day while waiting for contraction to happen. We happened to pass by the studio and I decided this will a great sort of pic to show my child when she grows up. :)

Although I had planned to do a normal birthing, lil miss Alma was delivered safely via caesarean the following Saturday morning, 27 Sept 08 9.00 am at Pondok Indah Hospital by obgyn dr. Azen Salim assisted by anesthetist dr. Laurentius. I was entering my 40th week of pregnancy.

My c-section experience was overall very good. I recommend these two docs to anyone and the service given by the nurses at Pondok Indah was quite commendable.

As a bonus, I was able to see the whole operation procedure albeit unplanned, as it was mirrored through the silver frame lights above the operating room. Yup, I can see them cutting me, etc down to the last detail. That was an experience, I can tell ya. But when I heard Alma cry for the first time and they brought Alma to me... i just bawled.. and all the stuff I suffered throughout my pregnancy was all worth it.

To my relief, the after ops pains weren't as bad as people had described. It was actually quite bearable, with the worst being the second and third day. After a week, I still felt a little bit uncomfortable but after ten days it was all a dim memory.

Viva Alma Sophia!

Had a business trip to HK last July and decided to use the one free day to go to Macau to see the sites. I was 7 months pregnant and felt tired really quickly all the time... I think this is my last biz trip before my upcoming delivery:)

Pregnancy Update: 28 weeks and counting!

Towards the end of my second trimester and starting the third trimester journey, I feel good (apart from the carpal tunnel syndrome, achy backs, painful leg muscle cramps, getting heavier by the day, constipation, swelling feet, interrupted sleep, vivid dreams, fatigue) and I also keep alternating between thinking “Geez, I’ve been preggers forever!” and “Omigosh, I can’t believe I’ll be a mom soon!”

Though I no longer can see my feet when I'm standing up,  I still work full time, drive myself everyday, go on my business trips (short ones only), have my weekly violin class, go out for dinners with my girlfriends, have my massages, go shopping, etc. In fact, during the course of the day I sometimes forget I'm pregnant and then of course, the little bugger kicks and quickly reminds me.

According to www.childbirthconnection.com:

"By your 28th week of pregnancy, your baby is about 16 inches long and weighs 3-1/2 to 4 pounds. The skin is wrinkled but will become less so as more subcutaneous fat, the layer of fat just under the skin, is laid down in the next few weeks. Fine downy hair, called lanugo, and a waxy white protective substance covering the skin, called vernix, are present on the baby's body. The baby's eyes are open. The eyebrows and eyelashes were formed in the fourth month. The baby sucks its thumb and its taste buds have developed. The baby kicks, stretches, and moves frequently in the uterus. These movements, which are readily observable to others, are often keenly felt by the mother. The fundus, the top of the uterus, is now about one-third of the distance between the umbilicus (bellybutton) and the xiphoid cartilage. The baby's organs and systems are quite well developed by the 28th week of pregnancy..."

Hamid and I are now looking at baby gear, nursery stuff, newborn clothes, etc. Oh its so much fun! Only 12 weeks to go... yipeee!

I'm Gonna Be a Yummy Mommy!

I am pleased to announce that I am gonna be a yummy mommy! We started planning to get pregnant sometime late last year and we’re both pleased and surprised that we didn’t have to wait very long for a pregnancy.

I found out sometime in mid January. I was at SOS Medika for my dental appointment. SOS gives out discounted dental cleaning package for their patients once a year as a birthday present, so I’ve come to take advantage. While I was waiting for my dentist, I decided to check out the tiny drugstore for a pregnancy test pack as I was about a week late. Here’s how my conversation with the druggist went:

“Do you sell pregnancy test packs?”

“Yes we do.”

“I’d like to have one please. Do you take credit cards?”

“Credit cards purchase are for a minimum fifty thousand rupiah. I have a bundled test pack special offer, its two sets for fifty thousand, cheaper than if you buy separately. Would you like that?”

I remembered thinking: well ok that sounds like a good deal. But shucks, if it comes out positive I’m stuck with an extra test pack that I dont need. Oh well, life has risks. (Dasar orang Padang ogah rugi! Haha.).

I said: “Sure, that’s fine.”

So took the test packs, swiped my card and went to the clinic’s bathrooom and it came out positive!!! Yippee kay yay!! I read the instructions again to make sure that 2 pink lines actually means positive and to check what the accuracy rate was. 99.9%!

After cleaning my pearly whites, I went straight to the obgyn at Brawijaya Women’s and Children and had an ultrasound. Yup, I had a little nut in there. And the doctor reconfirmed the test pack that I’m positively preggers!

I’ve now just passed the first three months and in the second trimester, sporting a protruding tummy and wearing maternity clothes already. I am eating a LOT of food and have been a good girl in taking my daily prenatal vitamins. The first three months of pregnancy I felt really fatigued. I wanted to take a nap every afternoon at 3 pm and was a goner again by around 10 pm. Although, I have no specific food cravings and no morning sickness, combined with not smoking, I eat a bomb!J

Here’s what my typical daily intake looks like:

I go for routine check ups and ultrasounds at my obgyn here in Brawijaya but while I was at a business trip in Singapore several weeks ago, I went to Mount E, did a check up there and for the first time saw my baby’s heartbeat in my 11th week pregnancy. Awwwwww!

Being pregnant is totally an eye opening experience for me. I feel my body changing daily. My belly growing, my sense of smell becoming keener, my emotions going yoyo and my appetite jumping up the roof.

I don’t go out very often now as I feel tired very quickly. For someone like me who has very high energy and lots of activities, this really affects me. All I want to do now is have a massage and curl up in bed after a day in the office. There goes my squash game and biking.  But I do plan to do some yoga and swimming when my energy level is up again.

I’m not planning for our next vacation as I dont know when that will be and I really dont feel like going anywhere far or adventurous at the moment. And the books I’m reading in bed these days are related to pregnancies and babies rather than the usual hodgepodge of novels, and travel and history books.

I’m now interested in vaccines for babies, schools, healthcare, the whole basket... Will my life be different from now on? I guess so. But I’m sure it’s for the better!

And so I've got an extra test pack for next time. Ain’t being pregnant grand?
